Webinar on December 18, 2025 "India's Digital Personal Data Protection Rules 2025"(held by Japan DPO Association)

The Digital Personal Data Protection Rules 2025 (the "DPDP Rules") were promulgated on 14 November 2025, marking the official launch of India's new data protection regime together with the entry into force of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 (the "DPDP Act"). Non-compliance with the DPDP Act carries the risk of substantial monetary penalties imposed by the Data Protection Board of India. The DPDP Rules, issued under the DPDP Act, provide further detail on how organisations should comply with the DPDP Act and introduce several new obligations.

In this seminar, we will welcome as a panelist an Indian-qualified lawyer who heads the data protection practice at Ikigai Law, one of the firms involved in the drafting process of the DPDP Act for the Indian government. Through a panel discussion, we will explore the implications and key obligations under the DPDP Rules, as well as the practical steps Japanese companies should take to comply with the DPDP Act and the DPDP Rules. A Japanese-language overview of India's comprehensive data protection framework--comprising the DPDP Act as completed by the DPDP Rules--will also be provided.
